“Pick of the Week” is a home I’ve recently toured in person which I believe makes for a great buy based on its status as a Great Home Design in a Great Location for a Great Price!
There was just no question for me this week. When I first drove by this one and saw the Coming Soon sign I was hooked. Love at first sight you might say. The California craftsman bungalow is just such a timeless gem. In some parts of Oakland they sell for well over $1 million for one in the condition this one is in. In some parts of the bay area there’s no telling what such a gorgeous craftsman could sell for. And while some parts of our region are completely bereft of such classics, Oakland is actually brimming with them. This particular one was built in 1915 and has so much of those coveted design features such as the wonderful wrap around porch at the front entrance, exposed beam work and rock solid masonry supporting the pillars. The home just exemplifies the concept of built-to-last. Inside you’ll find three bedrooms, and additional office space, and two full baths. Period details are preserved and the kitchen is very nicely updated. A commercial grade stove/oven stands out as an anchor of the chef’s kitchen. Upstairs is a wonderful master suite built out of the attic with its own sitting room, bedroom and full bath. And outside you’ll find a charming backyard space with a great gazebo for lounging on those warm Oakland afternoons. Located on a great part of Fleming Avenue, this one is well worth a long look. It’s one that will outlive us all, just like it did its designer and original builders no doubt. And please acknowledge what a great price it is on this listing. The Mills Gardens and Maxwell Park neighborhoods just continue to wow me as I discover them in detail. Open this Sunday 2-4pm. Check it out!
